Description

Chlorophyll: Porphyrin derivatives containing magnesium that act to convert light energy in photosynthetic organisms. [Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), National Library of Medicine, extracted Dec-2023]

chlorophyll : A family of magnesium porphyrins, defined by the presence of a fifth ring beyond the four pyrrole-like rings. The rings can have various side chains which usually include a long phytol chain. Toxicity

The toxic effects of cadmium (Cd) on the green alga Chlorella vulgaris were investigated. When shoot La content exceeded a toxic value, plant growth and chlorophyll a/b decreased. Peroxidase (POD) activity, cell membrane permeability, and content of proline in the leaf increased.

Dosage Studied

The device was found to effectively remove total phosphorus, chlorophyll a, chemical oxygen demand, and turbidity in water by controlling the coagulant dosage and adjusting the gas-liquid mixing pump parameters. The results suggest that further investigation of the dose-response for suppression versus promotion is warranted.

Roles (1)

RoleDescription
cofactorAn organic molecule or ion (usually a metal ion) that is required by an enzyme for its activity. It may be attached either loosely (coenzyme) or tightly (prosthetic group).
[role information is derived from Chemical Entities of Biological Interest (ChEBI), Hastings J, Owen G, Dekker A, Ennis M, Kale N, Muthukrishnan V, Turner S, Swainston N, Mendes P, Steinbeck C. (2016). ChEBI in 2016: Improved services and an expanding collection of metabolites. Nucleic Acids Res]

Drug Classes (2)

ClassDescription
chlorophyllA family of magnesium porphyrins, defined by the presence of a fifth ring beyond the four pyrrole-like rings. The rings can have various side chains which usually include a long phytol chain.
methyl esterAny carboxylic ester resulting from the formal condensation of a carboxy group with methanol.
[compound class information is derived from Chemical Entities of Biological Interest (ChEBI), Hastings J, Owen G, Dekker A, Ennis M, Kale N, Muthukrishnan V, Turner S, Swainston N, Mendes P, Steinbeck C.
