Toxicity

During macular hole surgery, indocyanine green (ICG) has access to the subretinal space and can lead to toxic and phototoxic damage of the retinal pigment epithelium. Exosomes, a class of naturally occurring nanoparticles, were utilized as nanocarriers for safe and cancer-targeted delivery of ICG.

Pharmacokinetics

Recirculatory pharmacokinetic models for indocyanine green (ICG), inulin, and antipyrine describe intravascular mixing and tissue distribution following intravenous administration. The disposition of an intravenous bolus of indocianine green has been studied in healthy man and baboons using a novel analysis of a two compartment pharmacokinetics model.
