Description

Selenomethylselenocysteine (SeMSC) is a non-canonical amino acid containing two selenium atoms. It is a synthetic analogue of selenocysteine, a naturally occurring amino acid that is incorporated into selenoproteins. SeMSC has been shown to have a variety of biological effects, including antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory activity, and anti-cancer activity. Its synthesis involves the reaction of selenomethionine with sodium selenite in the presence of a reducing agent. The presence of two selenium atoms in SeMSC is believed to be responsible for its enhanced antioxidant activity compared to selenocysteine. SeMSC is studied for its potential therapeutic applications in various diseases, including cancer, inflammation, and neurodegenerative diseases. The two selenium atoms in SeMSC provide a unique chemical structure that may enable it to interact with specific biological targets and exert its therapeutic effects.'
