Research Excerpts

Treatment

Sodium borohydride treatment of product 4 gave the same product as was obtained by treating 3,4-dichloro-2(5H)-furanone with NAC. Treatment resulted in carbonyl reduction generating relatively stable compounds that did not proceed to quinone in the presence of base.
