Description

Malachite green is a synthetic triphenylmethane dye. It is a green, crystalline solid that is soluble in water and alcohol. Malachite green is used as a dye in various applications, including textiles, paper, and leather. It is also used as a fungicide and an antiparasitic agent in aquaculture and veterinary medicine. Malachite green is produced by the reaction of benzaldehyde with dimethylaniline. The reaction is catalyzed by sulfuric acid. Malachite green has been shown to be toxic to aquatic organisms, including fish, invertebrates, and algae. It can also cause skin irritation and allergic reactions in humans. The use of malachite green has been banned in many countries, including the European Union, the United States, and Canada. This is because of its toxicity and potential for environmental contamination. Malachite green is still used in some developing countries, particularly in aquaculture. However, there are concerns about the potential for residues of malachite green to accumulate in fish and other aquatic organisms. Malachite green is studied because of its potential toxicity and environmental impact. Scientists are working to understand the mechanisms of malachite green toxicity and to develop alternative methods for controlling fish diseases.'

Dosage Studied

The adsorption of malachite green onto sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS)-modified sepiolite was investigated with respect to pH, oscillation rate, MG dosage and adsorbent dosage. The presence of ferric ions at an appropriate dosage could promote the deprotonation process and therefore enhance decolorization efficiency.
