Any organonitrogen heterocyclic compound based on a phenazine skeleton and derivatives.
Member | Definition | Role |
1-hydroxyphenazine | A phenazine carrying a hydroxy substituent at the 1-position. | 1-hydroxyphenazine |
1-phenazinecarboxylic acid | An aromatic carboxylic acid that is phenazine substituted at C-1 with a carboxy group. | phenazine-1-carboxylic acid |
1,8-dimethoxyphenazine | | 1,8-dimethoxyphenazine |

clofazimine | 3-Isopropylimino-3,5-dihydro-phenazine in which the hydrogen at position 5 is substituted substituted by a 4-chlorophenyl group, and that at position 2 is substituted by a (4-chlorophenyl)amino group. A dark red crystalline solid, clofazimine is an antimycobacterial and is one of the main drugs used for the treatment of multi-bacillary leprosy. However, it can cause red/brown discolouration of the skin, so other treatments are often preferred in light-skinned patients. | clofazimine |

N-(2-methylphenyl)-1-phenazinecarboxamide | | N-(2-methylphenyl)-1-phenazinecarboxamide |
neutral red base | A member of the class of phenazines carrying methyl, amino and dimethylamino substituents at positions 2, 3 and 7 respectively. The free base of neutral red, which acts as a pH indicator, changing from red to yellow between pH 6.8 and 8.0. | neutral red base |
phenazine | An azaarene that is anthracene in which the carbon atoms at positions 9 and 10 are replaced by nitrogen atoms. | phenazine |
phenazine-1-carboxamide | An aromatic amide that is phenazine substituted at C-1 with a carbamoyl group. | phenazine-1-carboxamide |
Polycartine B | | Polycartine B |
pyocyanine | An iminium betaine that is 5-methylphenazin-5-ium which is substituted at position 1 by an oxidanidyl group. An antibiotic pigment produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. | pyocyanine |
