Description

1,4-Naphthoquinone, also known as 1,4-NQ, is a quinone derivative of naphthalene. It is a yellow, crystalline solid that is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. 1,4-NQ is a powerful oxidizing agent and is used as a starting material for the synthesis of other quinones. It is also a key component in the synthesis of Vitamin K1. 1,4-NQ has been found to have a variety of biological effects, including antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory activity. It has also been shown to be cytotoxic to some cancer cell lines. 1,4-NQ is studied extensively for its potential applications in medicine and industry. For example, it is being investigated as a potential therapeutic agent for the treatment of cancer, bacterial infections, and inflammatory diseases. The compound is also used as a reagent in organic synthesis, as an antioxidant, and as a dye.'
