Description

Ferric chloride, also known as iron(III) chloride, is an inorganic compound with the formula FeCl3. It is a yellow-brown solid that is very soluble in water. Ferric chloride is an important industrial chemical, used as a catalyst, a coagulant, and a mordant. It is also used in the production of other chemicals, such as iron oxide pigments and ferric sulfate. Ferric chloride is synthesized by reacting iron with chlorine gas. It can also be produced by dissolving iron in hydrochloric acid. Ferric chloride is a strong oxidizing agent and can react with many substances to form iron(III) salts. It is also corrosive to metals and can cause skin burns. Ferric chloride is important for its role in the production of many other chemicals and materials. It is also used in wastewater treatment and in the production of electronics. Ferric chloride is studied to understand its chemical properties and its potential applications in different industries. It is also studied for its environmental impact and its health effects.'

Dosage Studied

Ferric chloride was effective in natural organic matter removal when coagulant dosage was higher than 15 mg/L, while aluminium was effective at lower dosage. Fe(III) can complex with humic acid under acidic condition. Alum addition produced a charge reversal at dosing above 60mg/L (18 x 10(-5)M) while ferric chl was effective.
