Description

Acetogenins: Polyketides of up to a few dozen carbons in length, formed by chain extension of multiple PROPIONATES and oxygenated to form tetrahydrofuran and lactone rings along the length of the chain. They are found in ANNONACEAE and other PLANTS. Related compounds cyclize to MACROLIDES. [Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), National Library of Medicine, extracted Dec-2023]

Research Excerpts

Overview

Acetogenins are a new chemical series with interesting in vitro antileishmanial activity. Further studies will be focused on the understanding of this selectivity in regard to the membrane and mitochondrial action using specific probes.
