Overview

Zeolites are a group of crystalline materials having molecularly ordered micropore arrangements. They have wide ranging applications such as heterogeneous catalysts and adsorbents which are dependent on their framework topology.

Effects

Zeolites have been extensively reported as reactive media owing to their high adsorption capacity, diverse pore structure and high stability. Zeolites are widely used as catalysts in the catalytic pyrolysis of biomass to produce biofuels and/or bio-based chemicals. They have been investigated as drug carriers and as adjuvants in anticancer therapy, dietetic supplements or antimicrobial agents.

Actions

Zeolites have a porous structure and tunable properties, which can be modified with various materials. Zeolites with lower Si/Al ratios give comparable initial rates for aromatics production, but far more rapid catalyst deactivation rates.
