Description

Cinchophen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that was first synthesized in 1908. It was widely used to treat gout and other inflammatory conditions, but it was withdrawn from the market in many countries due to its severe hepatotoxicity. Cinchophen is a derivative of cinchonine, a naturally occurring alkaloid found in the bark of the cinchona tree. It is thought to exert its anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are substances that mediate inflammation. However, cinchophen's mechanism of action is not fully understood. Cinchophen is still studied today, primarily for its potential as an anticancer agent. Some research suggests that cinchophen may have anti-tumor activity, particularly against breast cancer. However, more research is needed to determine its safety and efficacy in humans.'
