Description

Dimenhydrinate is an antihistamine used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. It is also used to treat vertigo. Dimenhydrinate is a combination of diphenhydramine and 8-chlorotheophylline. It is available over the counter and by prescription. Dimenhydrinate works by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical that is released by the body in response to allergies. Histamine can cause symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and itching. Dimenhydrinate also has anticholinergic effects, which means that it blocks the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that is involved in muscle contraction and other bodily functions. The anticholinergic effects of dimenhydrinate help to reduce nausea and vomiting. Dimenhydrinate is generally safe and effective for most people when used as directed. However, it can cause side effects such as drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, and constipation. It is important to talk to your doctor before taking dimenhydrinate if you have any medical conditions, such as glaucoma, prostate problems, or urinary retention. Dimenhydrinate can interact with other medications, so it is important to tell your doctor about all of the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medications and herbal supplements. Dimenhydrinate is a safe and effective treatment for motion sickness and vertigo when used as directed. It is important to talk to your doctor before taking dimenhydrinate if you have any medical conditions or are taking other medications. It is also important to follow the directions on the label carefully.'
