Description Research Excerpts Clinical Trials Roles Classes Pathways Study Profile Bioassays Related Drugs Related Conditions Protein Interactions Research Growth Market Indicators

Alprenolol hydrochloride is a beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist, also known as a beta-blocker. It was originally synthesized in the 1960s and has been used clinically to treat a variety of conditions, including hypertension, angina, and migraines. It works by blocking the effects of adrenaline and noradrenaline, hormones that can cause the heart to beat faster and blood vessels to constrict. Alprenolol hydrochloride is also being studied for its potential therapeutic effects in other conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and cancer. Alprenolol hydrochloride is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, (R)-alprenolol and (S)-alprenolol, which have different pharmacological properties. (R)-alprenolol is a more potent beta-blocker than (S)-alprenolol, while (S)-alprenolol is a more potent partial agonist at the beta-adrenergic receptor. This difference in activity is believed to be due to the different spatial orientations of the two enantiomers. Alprenolol hydrochloride is a valuable research tool that is used to study the role of beta-adrenergic receptors in a variety of physiological processes. It is also a promising therapeutic agent that may have potential applications in the treatment of a wide range of conditions.'
