Description

Clomipramine hydrochloride is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) that is used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and major depressive disorder (MDD). It was first synthesized in 1958 and is a derivative of imipramine. Clomipramine hydrochloride works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain, which is a neurotransmitter that plays a role in regulating mood and behavior. It is thought to be effective in treating OCD because it reduces the symptoms of anxiety and compulsions. Clomipramine hydrochloride is also used to treat other conditions, such as panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. It is generally well-tolerated, but it can cause side effects, such as dry mouth, constipation, drowsiness, and weight gain. Clomipramine hydrochloride is a controlled substance and should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional.'

clomipramine hydrochloride : A hydrochloride resulting from the reaction of equimolar amounts of clomipramine and hydrogen chloride. One of the more sedating tricyclic antidepressants, it is used for the treatment of depression as well as obsessive-compulsive disorder and phobias.
