Description

Piribedil is a dopamine agonist that is used to treat Parkinson's disease. It was first synthesized in 1967 and has been used clinically since the 1970s. Piribedil works by stimulating dopamine receptors in the brain, which helps to improve motor function in people with Parkinson's disease. Piribedil is also being studied for its potential use in treating other conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease, restless legs syndrome, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Piribedil is generally well-tolerated, but it can cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and headache. It is important to note that piribedil is not a cure for Parkinson's disease, but it can help to improve symptoms and quality of life for people with the condition.'

Piribedil: A dopamine D2 agonist. It is used in the treatment of parkinson disease, particularly for alleviation of tremor. It has also been used for circulatory disorders and in other applications as a D2 agonist. [Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), National Library of Medicine, extracted Dec-2023]
