Description

Lomefloxacin hydrochloride is a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibiotic that exhibits a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting the activity of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication. Lomefloxacin is generally well-tolerated, but like other fluoroquinolones, it can cause adverse effects such as gastrointestinal upset, tendonitis, and photosensitivity. Despite its clinical efficacy, lomefloxacin has been largely replaced by newer fluoroquinolones with improved safety profiles. Research on lomefloxacin continues to focus on its potential applications in veterinary medicine and its role in the development of new antibiotics.'

lomefloxacin hydrochloride : The hydrochloride salt of lomefloxacin. It is administered by mouth to treat bacterial infections including bronchitis and urinary tract infections. It is also used topically as eye drops for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, and as ear drops for the treatment of otitis externa and otitis media. Roles (3)

RoleDescription
photosensitizing agentA chemical compound that can be excited by light of a specific wavelength and subsequently transfer energy to a chosen reactant. This is commonly molecular oxygen within a cancer tissue, which is converted to (highly rective) singlet state oxygen. This rapidly reacts with any nearby biomolecules, ultimately killing the cancer cells.
antimicrobial agentA substance that kills or slows the growth of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoans.
antitubercular agentA substance that kills or slows the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is used in the treatment of tuberculosis.
