Description Research Excerpts Clinical Trials Roles Classes Pathways Study Profile Bioassays Related Drugs Related Conditions Protein Interactions Research Growth Market Indicators

Myambutol, also known as ethambutol, is an anti-tuberculosis medication. It is used to treat active tuberculosis, typically in combination with other medications. Ethambutol disrupts the synthesis of mycolic acids, which are essential components of the cell wall of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This disrupts the bacterial cell wall and inhibits bacterial growth. Ethambutol is primarily effective against rapidly dividing Mycobacterium tuberculosis, but it is also effective against some other mycobacterial species. It is commonly used in combination with other anti-tuberculosis medications to prevent the development of resistance. Ethambutol is typically well-tolerated, although it can cause visual disturbances in some patients. It is important to monitor patients for potential side effects, particularly visual impairment, and to discontinue treatment if necessary.'
