Description Research Excerpts Clinical Trials Roles Classes Pathways Study Profile Bioassays Related Drugs Related Conditions Protein Interactions Research Growth Market Indicators

Description

2-Chlorophenol is a colorless to pale yellow, oily liquid with a pungent odor. It is a synthetic organic compound widely used as an intermediate in the manufacture of various pesticides, herbicides, dyes, and pharmaceuticals. 2-Chlorophenol is produced through the chlorination of phenol in the presence of a catalyst. It can also be synthesized from the reaction of benzene with chlorine and water. 2-Chlorophenol is known to be toxic to aquatic organisms and can bioaccumulate in the food chain. It is also suspected to be carcinogenic in humans. The compound is highly toxic to the nervous system and can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation. Due to its potential environmental and health risks, the use and production of 2-chlorophenol are strictly regulated. The study of 2-chlorophenol is crucial to understand its environmental fate, toxicity, and potential risks to human health. Research is ongoing to develop safe and sustainable methods for its production, use, and disposal.'
