Description

Potassium hydroxide (KOH), also known as caustic potash, is a highly alkaline inorganic compound with the formula KOH. It is a white solid that is highly soluble in water. It is deliquescent, absorbing moisture from the air, and also readily absorbs carbon dioxide. Potassium hydroxide is used in many industrial and consumer applications, including the production of soaps, detergents, fertilizers, and batteries. It is also used in the manufacture of glass, ceramics, and pharmaceuticals. Potassium hydroxide is a strong base and is corrosive to human tissues. It is also a powerful reagent that can be used to neutralize acids and to break down organic matter.
