Description

ferric ammonium citrate: RN given refers to unspecified NH4-Fe(+3) salt [Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), National Library of Medicine, extracted Dec-2023]

ferric ammonium citrate : A mixture of indefinite composition that contains ferric and ammonium cations and citrate(3-) anions, ferric ammonium citrate may be obtained as red crystals or a brownish yellow powder or as green crystals or powder. It is added to foods as an acidity regulator and anticaking agent. It is also used as a positive oral contrast agent in magnetic resonance imaging, and was formerly administered orally as a source of iron for the treatment of iron-deficiency anaemia.
