Description

Magnesium carbonate (MgCO3) is an inorganic compound that occurs naturally in the mineral magnesite. It is a white solid that is odorless and tasteless. It is insoluble in water but soluble in acids. Magnesium carbonate is produced commercially by reacting magnesium oxide with carbon dioxide. It has a wide range of applications, including as an antacid, a fire retardant, and a filler in plastics and rubber. It is also used in agriculture as a soil amendment and in the production of magnesium metal. Magnesium carbonate is studied because it is a naturally occurring mineral with potential uses in various industries. It is also being investigated as a potential treatment for certain medical conditions, such as heartburn and indigestion. '
