Description

Cholanic acid is a bile acid that is synthesized in the liver from cholesterol. It is a major component of bile, which is a fluid that helps in the digestion and absorption of fats. Cholanic acid is also a precursor to other bile acids, such as cholic acid and deoxycholic acid. Cholanic acid is studied because of its role in the regulation of lipid metabolism and its potential therapeutic effects in conditions such as gallstones and cholesterol gallstones. '
