Description

Neplanocin A is a naturally occurring nucleoside antibiotic isolated from the fungus *Streptomyces *species. It is a potent inhibitor of adenosine deaminase (ADA), an enzyme that catalyzes the deamination of adenosine to inosine. Neplanocin A's mechanism of action involves acting as a substrate analog for ADA, leading to the formation of a stable enzyme-inhibitor complex, thereby inhibiting the enzyme's activity. Due to its potent ADA inhibitory properties, neplanocin A has been studied extensively for its potential therapeutic applications in various diseases, including cancer and autoimmune disorders. Neplanocin A exhibits antitumor activity by inhibiting the proliferation of tumor cells, and it has also shown promising results in the treatment of immune disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. However, its clinical use is limited by its toxicity. Research efforts are ongoing to develop analogs and derivatives of neplanocin A with improved therapeutic profiles.'
