Description

Indo-1 is a fluorescent calcium indicator dye. It is a derivative of the fluorescent dye quin-2. Indo-1 has been widely used in research to measure calcium concentrations in cells. Indo-1 is excited by ultraviolet light and emits blue fluorescence when unbound to calcium. Upon binding to calcium, the emission spectrum shifts to green. This spectral shift allows for the measurement of intracellular calcium concentrations. Indo-1 is typically loaded into cells using a cell-permeable ester form. Upon entry into the cell, the ester is hydrolyzed, releasing the active form of the dye. Indo-1 is a valuable tool for studying calcium signaling in a variety of cellular processes, including neurotransmission, muscle contraction, and cell proliferation.'
