Description

Aldrin: A highly poisonous substance that was formerly used as an insecticide. The manufacture and use has been discontinued in the U.S. (From Merck Index, 11th ed) [Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), National Library of Medicine, extracted Dec-2023]

aldrin : An organochlorine compound resulting from the Diels-Alder reaction of hexachlorocyclopentadiene with norbornadiene. A proinsecticide (by epoxidation of the non-chlorinated double bond to give dieldrin), it was widely used as an insecticide before being banned in the 1970s as a persistent organic pollutant. Dosage Studied

Aldrin administration displaced the control dose-response curves constructed for amphetamine and pentylenetetrazol to the left and right, respectively. No differences were detected between control and aldrin-treated rats for strychnine, picrotoxin or 3-mercaptopropionic acid.
