Description

Nomifensine is a selective dopamine reuptake inhibitor (DRI) that was originally marketed as an antidepressant. Its (S)-enantiomer, (S)-nomifensine, is more potent than the racemic mixture and has a longer duration of action. (S)-Nomifensine is being studied for its potential therapeutic effects in a variety of conditions, including ADHD, Parkinson's disease, and addiction. The synthesis of (S)-nomifensine involves a multi-step process that begins with the enantioselective reduction of a ketone to obtain the desired (S)-enantiomer. (S)-nomifensine has been shown to improve cognitive function, reduce impulsivity, and enhance motivation in preclinical studies. Its importance lies in its potential to provide a novel therapeutic approach for treating a range of neuropsychiatric disorders.'
