Description

3-Methylpentane is an alkane with the molecular formula C6H14. It is a colorless, flammable liquid with a characteristic odor. It is a branched-chain alkane, meaning that it has a carbon atom bonded to more than two other carbon atoms. 3-Methylpentane is a component of gasoline and other fuels. It is also used as a solvent and a reagent in chemical synthesis. There are several possible synthesis routes for 3-methylpentane, one common method is via the Wurtz reaction involving 2-bromobutane and 1-bromopropane. 3-Methylpentane is not known to have any significant biological effects. Its primary importance lies in its use as a fuel component and its role in understanding the chemistry of alkanes. The study of 3-methylpentane and other alkanes contributes to the understanding of combustion processes, fuel properties, and the structure-property relationships of organic compounds. '

3-methylpentane : An alkane that is pentane which is substituted by a methyl group at position 3. It is used as a solvent in organic synthesis, as a lubricant and as a raw material for producing carbon black.
