Description

2,6-Diaminopurine (DAP) is a purine analog with a structure similar to adenine. It is synthesized by various methods, including the condensation of 2,6-dichloropurine with ammonia or by the reaction of 2,6-diaminopyrimidine with formic acid. DAP is an important component in the study of purine metabolism, cancer, and viral infections. It has shown potential as an antiviral agent, particularly against herpes simplex virus (HSV), and its derivatives have been investigated as potential anticancer agents. DAP acts as a competitive inhibitor of adenosine deaminase, an enzyme involved in purine metabolism. Additionally, it can also inhibit DNA polymerase and reverse transcriptase, enzymes essential for viral replication. The study of DAP's biological effects and potential therapeutic applications continues to be an active area of research.'
