Description Research Excerpts Clinical Trials Roles Classes Pathways Study Profile Bioassays Related Drugs Related Conditions Protein Interactions Research Growth Market Indicators

4-Aminobenzamide (4-AB) is a small-molecule inhibitor of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) enzymes. It has been shown to have a variety of biological effects, including inhibition of DNA repair, induction of apoptosis, and sensitization of cancer cells to chemotherapy. 4-AB is synthesized via a multi-step process that involves the nitration of benzamide followed by reduction of the nitro group to an amine. Its effects on DNA repair pathways, particularly its inhibition of PARP, have made it a focus of research in cancer therapy. 4-AB has shown promise as a radiosensitizer, enhancing the efficacy of radiation therapy in treating various cancers. It has also been investigated as a potential therapeutic agent for neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. However, despite its promising activity, further research is needed to understand its potential toxicities and optimize its therapeutic potential.'
