Description

Trilaurin is a triglyceride composed of three lauric acid molecules esterified to a glycerol molecule. It is a white, waxy solid at room temperature and is found in coconut oil, palm kernel oil, and breast milk. Trilaurin is synthesized by the esterification of glycerol with lauric acid. It is also used as a model compound for the study of triglyceride digestion and absorption. Trilaurin is being studied for its potential as a biofuel, as it can be converted to biodiesel through transesterification. Trilaurin has been shown to have antimicrobial and antifungal properties. It is also being studied for its potential as a therapeutic agent for skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.'

trilaurin : A triglyceride obtained by formal acylation of the three hydroxy groups of glycerol by lauric (dodecanoic) acid.
