Description

Fructose-1-phosphate (F1P) is an important intermediate in carbohydrate metabolism. It is synthesized from fructose by the enzyme fructokinase, and is further metabolized by the enzyme aldolase B to glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate. F1P is a key substrate for the synthesis of glycogen in the liver and muscle. Additionally, F1P is involved in the regulation of glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. It is a potent activator of phosphofructokinase-1, a key regulatory enzyme in glycolysis. The study of F1P is essential for understanding the role of fructose in carbohydrate metabolism and its contribution to various metabolic disorders, such as hereditary fructose intolerance and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.'
