Description

Tetradifon, also known as Tedion, is an organochlorine acaricide, widely used in agriculture for controlling mites. It is a white, crystalline solid with a melting point of 110-112°C. Tetradifon is synthesized by reacting 2,4,5-trichlorophenol with sulfuryl chloride and then treating the resulting product with chlorine. The compound is effective against a variety of mite species, including the two-spotted spider mite and the European red mite. Tetradifon is a non-systemic insecticide that acts by disrupting the respiratory process in mites. It is absorbed through the cuticle and accumulates in the body, leading to paralysis and death. Tetradifon has been shown to have a long persistence in the environment, with a half-life of several months in soil. It is also highly toxic to aquatic organisms. Due to its environmental persistence and toxicity, the use of tetradifon has been restricted in many countries. Research on tetradifon focuses on understanding its environmental fate and its impact on human health. Studies have shown that tetradifon can accumulate in the food chain, potentially posing a risk to human health through consumption of contaminated food.'
