Description

Thiochrome is a fluorescent compound that is formed by the oxidation of thiamine (vitamin B1). It is synthesized through the reaction of thiamine with an oxidizing agent, such as potassium ferricyanide. Thiochrome exhibits strong blue fluorescence under ultraviolet light, which makes it useful for analytical purposes, such as in the determination of thiamine levels in biological samples. Thiochrome is also known to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It is studied for its potential therapeutic applications, particularly in the treatment of neurological disorders and oxidative stress-related diseases. It is also used as a marker for thiamine deficiency.'
