Description Research Excerpts Clinical Trials Roles Classes Pathways Study Profile Bioassays Related Drugs Related Conditions Protein Interactions Research Growth Market Indicators

Diethylurea is a colorless, crystalline solid with the chemical formula (C2H5)2NC(O)NH2. It is synthesized by the reaction of diethylamine with urea or by the reaction of ethyl isocyanate with diethylamine. Diethylurea is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme urease, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of urea to ammonia and carbon dioxide. This inhibition is thought to be due to the formation of a stable complex between diethylurea and the active site of urease. Diethylurea is also known to have a variety of other biological effects, including antimicrobial activity and anti-inflammatory activity. It is studied as a potential therapeutic agent for the treatment of a variety of diseases, including cancer, bacterial infections, and inflammatory diseases. Diethylurea is a relatively non-toxic compound. However, it can cause irritation to the skin and eyes. Diethylurea is a useful research tool for studying the activity of urease and for developing new urease inhibitors. It also has potential applications in the development of new antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory drugs.'
