Description

3-Cresol purple, also known as m-cresol purple, is a pH indicator dye. It is a sulfonephthalein dye. It is synthesized by the reaction of 3-cresol with phthalic anhydride. 3-Cresol purple exhibits different colors at different pH values, making it useful in acid-base titrations. It is used in biochemistry and microbiology to measure pH. It is also used in analytical chemistry to determine the concentration of certain ions. The color change of 3-cresol purple is from yellow (acidic) to purple (basic) with a pH transition range of 1.2-2.8 (yellow) and 7.4-9.0 (purple). 3-Cresol purple is a valuable tool for studying acid-base chemistry and its effects in various applications. Its use in pH determination and titrations is crucial for accurate measurements and analysis.'
