cyclin-dependent protein serine/threonine kinase activator activity

Definition

Target type: molecularfunction

Binds to and increases the activity of a cyclin-dependent protein serine/threonine kinase. [GOC:dph, PMID:2569363, PMID:3322810]

Cyclin-dependent protein serine/threonine kinase activator activity is a molecular function that describes proteins which regulate the activity of cyclin-dependent protein kinases (CDKs). CDKs are a family of serine/threonine kinases that play crucial roles in cell cycle regulation, transcription, and other cellular processes. CDKs are inactive on their own and require association with regulatory subunits called cyclins for activation. Cyclin-dependent protein serine/threonine kinase activator activity refers to the ability of a protein to directly interact with and activate CDKs, often by promoting their binding to cyclins or by removing inhibitory phosphorylation. This activation process typically involves conformational changes within the CDK molecule, leading to increased catalytic activity. These activators play a central role in controlling the timing and progression of various cellular events, ensuring proper cell cycle regulation and other vital cellular processes.'
