Buthiobate, also known as S-[[(dibutylthio)carbonyl]methyl] O,O-diethyl phosphorodithioate, is a broad-spectrum acaricide used to control mites on various crops. It acts as an inhibitor of mitochondrial respiration, specifically inhibiting the enzyme succinate dehydrogenase, which is involved in the electron transport chain. Buthiobate is effective against a wide range of mite species, including spider mites, red spider mites, and two-spotted spider mites. Due to its broad-spectrum activity, it is widely used in agriculture to control mite infestations. However, buthiobate is also toxic to other organisms, including fish and bees, and its use has been restricted in some countries due to environmental concerns.'
