Description

Risotilide is a potent and selective inhibitor of the human ether-à-go-go-related gene (hERG) potassium channel. This channel plays a critical role in the repolarization of the heart, and its inhibition can lead to life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias. Risotilide was originally developed as an antiarrhythmic drug, but it was withdrawn from clinical trials due to its potential to prolong the QT interval and increase the risk of torsades de pointes. However, risotilide has been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, and neuroprotective effects in various in vitro and in vivo studies. For example, risotilide has been shown to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in models of inflammatory bowel disease and to protect neurons from damage in models of stroke. These findings suggest that risotilide may have therapeutic potential in a variety of diseases, although further research is needed to evaluate its safety and efficacy in humans.'
