Pentachlorothiophenol is a sulfur-containing organic compound with the formula C6Cl5SH. It is a white to yellowish solid. Pentachlorothiophenol is a useful building block in organic synthesis. For example, it can be used to prepare thioethers, sulfides, and disulfides. It can also be used to synthesize other sulfur-containing heterocycles. Pentachlorothiophenol is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme glutathione S-transferase. Glutathione S-transferase is an enzyme that plays an important role in detoxification. Pentachlorothiophenol is also a known fungicide. This compound has been used to study the reaction mechanisms of certain organic reactions.'
