Target type: cellularcomponent
A ribonucleoprotein complex that has RNA-directed RNA polymerase (RdRP) activity, and is composed of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) and the non-coding RNA component of mitochondrial RNA processing endoribonuclease (RMRP). [GOC:bf, GOC:BHF, GOC:BHF_telomere, GOC:nc, PMID:19701182]
The TERT-RMRP complex is a ribonucleoprotein complex composed of the telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) and the RNA component of the mitochondrial RNA processing endoribonuclease (RMRP). The cellular component of this complex is primarily located in the **nucleolus**, which is a subcompartment of the nucleus responsible for ribosome biogenesis. Within the nucleolus, the TERT-RMRP complex associates with the **nucleolar organizing region (NOR)**, a specific chromosomal region containing ribosomal DNA genes. This association is crucial for the complex's function in telomere maintenance and its role in rRNA processing. The TERT-RMRP complex may also be found in other cellular compartments, including the **cytoplasm**, though its functions in these locations are less well understood.'
