Target type: molecularfunction
Catalysis of the reaction: 2-acetyl-1-alkyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine + H2O = 1-alkyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine + acetate. [EC:3.1.1.47]
1-alkyl-2-acetylglycerophosphocholine esterase activity hydrolyzes the ester bond between the choline moiety and the fatty acyl group at the sn-2 position of 1-alkyl-2-acetylglycerophosphocholine, also known as platelet-activating factor (PAF). This enzyme plays a crucial role in the regulation of PAF levels, a potent inflammatory mediator, and is involved in various cellular processes including inflammation, immune responses, and signal transduction. The hydrolysis of PAF by this enzyme leads to the inactivation of the potent biological activity of PAF, thus contributing to the resolution of inflammatory responses.'
