verapamil and Anxiety

verapamil has been researched along with Anxiety in 3 studies

Verapamil: A calcium channel blocker that is a class IV anti-arrhythmia agent.
verapamil : A racemate comprising equimolar amounts of dexverapamil and (S)-verapamil. An L-type calcium channel blocker of the phenylalkylamine class, it is used (particularly as the hydrochloride salt) in the treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris and cardiac arrhythmia, and as a preventive medication for migraine.
2-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-5-{[2-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)ethyl](methyl)amino}-2-(propan-2-yl)pentanenitrile : A tertiary amino compound that is 3,4-dimethoxyphenylethylamine in which the hydrogens attached to the nitrogen are replaced by a methyl group and a 4-cyano-4-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-5-methylhexyl group.

Anxiety: Feelings or emotions of dread, apprehension, and impending disaster but not disabling as with ANXIETY DISORDERS.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"Rats, chronically treated with diazepam (4 mg/kg/day) for 28 days, displayed increased anxiety when tested in the elevated plus-maze, 42 hr after the last dose."7.68Concurrent treatment with verapamil prevents diazepam withdrawal-induced anxiety, in the absence of altered calcium flux in cortical synaptosomes. ( File, SE; Hitchcott, PK; Zharkovsky, A, 1992)
"Benzodiazepine withdrawal, spontaneous or precipitated by the receptor antagonist, flumazenil, produces anxiety that can be measured in animal models."4.78The benzodiazepines: anxiolytic and withdrawal effects. ( Little, HJ, 1991)
