A case of late-stage lymphogranuloma venereum in a woman in Europe.
Lymphogranuloma venereum is caused by Chlamydia trachomatis serovars L1-L3. The third stage of the disease leads to chronic progressive lymphangitis. The first European case of elephantiasic enlargement of the female genitalia caused by C. trachomatis L2 serovar in decades is reported. An uncommon cause of a destructive vulval lesion.
We present a case of a 39-year-old woman with a vulval lesion, which macroscopically looked consistent with a fungating squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva. However, further investigations demonstrated a less common cause for this presentation.
