trimethoprim and Vesicoureteral Reflux

trimethoprim has been researched along with Vesicoureteral Reflux in 24 studies

Trimethoprim: A pyrimidine inhibitor of dihydrofolate reductase, it is an antibacterial related to PYRIMETHAMINE. It is potentiated by SULFONAMIDES and the TRIMETHOPRIM, SULFAMETHOXAZOLE DRUG COMBINATION is the form most often used. It is sometimes used alone as an antimalarial. TRIMETHOPRIM RESISTANCE has been reported.
trimethoprim : An aminopyrimidine antibiotic whose structure consists of pyrimidine 2,4-diamine and 1,2,3-trimethoxybenzene moieties linked by a methylene bridge.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" They were aged 2-12 years at the start of prophylaxis which was given in a daily dose of approximately 10 mg sulphamethoxazole (SMX) and 2 mg trimethoprim (TMP)/kg body weight for at least 6 months and for up to 6 years."3.66Normal somatic growth in children receiving low-dose prophylactic co-trimoxazole. ( Paton, AM; Preece, MA; Smellie, JM, 1983)
"Since risk of renal scarring is believed to occur more frequently in young people, and since recurrent urinary infections mainly affect girls, the age and sex of subjects are important in the design of a prophylactic regimen."2.40Antibacterial prophylaxis in children with urinary tract infection. ( Bollgren, I, 1999)
"When pyelonephritis was present, piglets were randomized to receive either standard antibiotics or antibiotics and 2 mg."1.30Adjunctive oral corticosteroids reduce renal scarring: the piglet model of reflux and acute experimental pyelonephritis.
