triiodothyronine and Diseases of Endocrine System

triiodothyronine has been researched along with Diseases of Endocrine System in 40 studies

Triiodothyronine: A T3 thyroid hormone normally synthesized and secreted by the thyroid gland in much smaller quantities than thyroxine (T4). Most T3 is derived from peripheral monodeiodination of T4 at the 5' position of the outer ring of the iodothyronine nucleus. The hormone finally delivered and used by the tissues is mainly T3.
3,3',5-triiodo-L-thyronine : An iodothyronine compound having iodo substituents at the 3-, 3'- and 5-positions. Although some is produced in the thyroid, most of the 3,3',5-triiodo-L-thyronine in the body is generated by mono-deiodination of L-thyroxine in the peripheral tissues. Its metabolic activity is about 3 to 5 times that of L-thyroxine. The sodium salt is used in the treatment of hypothyroidism.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
" Six experiments were done: 1, definition of positive results for TgAA using samples from normal and T3 autoantibody (T3AA) positive dogs; 2, establishment of prevalence of positive results in 91 clinically normal dogs; 3, evaluation of positive results for sera from dogs with nonthyroidal illnesses; 4, testing of samples from dogs with primary hypothyroidism but absence of T4AA or T3AA, or both; 5, determination of prevalence of false-negative results in dogs that are T4AA and/or T3AA positive, which were (18 dogs) or were not (22 dogs) receiving L-thyroxine replacement therapy; and 6, examination of thyroid biopsy specimens from 18 dogs (8 TgAA positive and 10 TgAA negative)."3.70Prevalence of autoantibodies to thyroglobulin in dogs with nonthyroidal illness. ( Graham, PA; Hauptman, J; Nachreiner, RF; Refsal, KR; Watson, GL, 1998)
" Except for asymptomatic bacteriuria in one patient (who remained febrile despite appropriate antibiotic therapy) infection was ruled out in all cases, and fever was attributed to "masked" thyrotoxicosis, triiodothyronine (T3) toxicosis, subacute thyroiditis, primary adrenal insufficiency, secondary adrenal insufficiency and pheochromocytoma."3.66Hormonal hyperthermia: endocrinologic causes of fever. ( Daniels, GH; Simon, HB, 1979)
"Hypothyroidism is associated with accumulation of hyaluronic acid within various tissues, additional fluid retention due to reduced cardiac output and reduced thermogenesis."2.44Classical endocrine diseases causing obesity. ( Weaver, JU, 2008)
"Iron overload is a major problem in patients with b-thalassemia major, and it has many structural and metabolic consequences."1.38Effect of iron overload on endocrinopathies in patients with beta-thalassaemia major and intermedia. ( Kurtoglu, AU; Kurtoglu, E; Temizkan, AK, 2012)
"We also studied various types of exophthalmos: 31 cases of endocrine exophthalmos, whether the thyroidal plasma values were normal or not, and 2 cases of exophthalmia with expansive orbital hyperplasia in which there had been no previous thyroidal disturbance."1.27[Importance of the assay of T3 and T4 tears and plasma for the diagnosis of endocrine exophthalmos]. ( Glomaud, J; Liotet, S, 1987)
" TRH induced TSH increase in the chronic administration group was similar to or greater than that of control subjects with matched basal TSH."1.27Effect of bromocriptine on serum TSH in euthyroid patients with endocrine disorders.
