General strategies include local wound care, surgery, skin grafting, debridement, and vascular reconstruction. However, many wounds remain resistant to conventional therapies. Because platelet factors are important in the normal mechanism of wound healing, we report on the topical application of platelet-derived growth factor. Our initial results suggest that the topical application may stimulate and promote healing of chronic wounds.
