thyroxine and A-V Dissociation

thyroxine has been researched along with A-V Dissociation in 12 studies

Thyroxine: The major hormone derived from the thyroid gland. Thyroxine is synthesized via the iodination of tyrosines (MONOIODOTYROSINE) and the coupling of iodotyrosines (DIIODOTYROSINE) in the THYROGLOBULIN. Thyroxine is released from thyroglobulin by proteolysis and secreted into the blood. Thyroxine is peripherally deiodinated to form TRIIODOTHYRONINE which exerts a broad spectrum of stimulatory effects on cell metabolism.
thyroxine : An iodothyronine compound having iodo substituents at the 3-, 3'-, 5- and 5'-positions.

Research Excerpts

" Electrophysiologic data obtained before and during thyroxine replacement therapy showed that hypothyroidism lengthens the effective refractory period of the atria, AV node, bypass tract and His-Purkinje system (that in the ventricle not being measured); this lengthening resembles the effects of long-term administration of amiodarone."5.27Atrioventricular block complicating amiodarone-induced hypothyroidism in a patient with pre-excitation and rate-dependent bilateral bundle branch block. ( Brun, S; Gaita, F; Mangiardi, L; Nademanee, K; Presbitero, P; Singh, BN, 1986)
