thymidine and Vitamin A Deficiency

thymidine has been researched along with Vitamin A Deficiency in 11 studies

Vitamin A Deficiency: A nutritional condition produced by a deficiency of VITAMIN A in the diet, characterized by NIGHT BLINDNESS and other ocular manifestations such as dryness of the conjunctiva and later of the cornea (XEROPHTHALMIA). Vitamin A deficiency is a very common problem worldwide, particularly in developing countries as a consequence of famine or shortages of vitamin A-rich foods. In the United States it is found among the urban poor, the elderly, alcoholics, and patients with malabsorption. (From Cecil Textbook of Medicine, 19th ed, p1179)

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"We examined the effects of mild vitamin A deficiency and ozone (O3) exposure on the labeling index, a marker of cell proliferation, of epithelial cells on the bronchiole and cells in the alveoli of rat lungs, to assess the role of vitamin A in maintenance of epithelial cells on the distal airway and alveolus."3.68Vitamin A is involved in maintenance of epithelial cells on the bronchioles and cells in the alveoli of rats. ( Miura, T; Takahashi, K; Takahashi, Y, 1993)
" Thymidine labeling index, growth fraction and the content of DNA, RNA and protein in the jejunal mucosa were not significantly affected by vitamin A deficiency."3.65Effect of vitamin A deficiency on intestinal cell proliferation in the rat. ( Bunge, C; Deluca, HF; Zile, M, 1977)
