[Status of the endocrine function of the thymus gland in the normal and complicated course of pregnancy].
A total of 84 women with normal pregnancy and those with threatened abortions were examined, as were 28 healthy nonpregnant women, to estimate the function of the thymus. The findings evidence enhancement of the endocrine function of the thymus in pregnancy, this function being assessed from the thymic serum factor titer. The function activation is related to pregnancy course and is more marked in threatened abortion. Before labor the thymic serum factor titers are the highest and they persist high after spontaneous delivery. The biological sense of thymic hormonal function activation in pregnancy is discussed, as are the possible mechanisms of this phenomenon.
