theobromine and Neoplasm Metastasis

theobromine has been researched along with Neoplasm Metastasis in 3 studies

Theobromine: 3,7-Dimethylxanthine. The principle alkaloid in Theobroma cacao (the cacao bean) and other plants. A xanthine alkaloid that is used as a bronchodilator and as a vasodilator. It has a weaker diuretic activity than THEOPHYLLINE and is also a less powerful stimulant of smooth muscle. It has practically no stimulant effect on the central nervous system. It was formerly used as a diuretic and in the treatment of angina pectoris and hypertension. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, pp1318-9)
theobromine : A dimethylxanthine having the two methyl groups located at positions 3 and 7. A purine alkaloid derived from the cacao plant, it is found in chocolate, as well as in a number of other foods, and is a vasodilator, diuretic and heart stimulator.

Neoplasm Metastasis: The transfer of a neoplasm from one organ or part of the body to another remote from the primary site.

Research Excerpts

ExcerptRelevanceReference
"In the present study, we have examined the antimetastatic effect of flurbiprofen, a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug, on spontaneous metastases formation in mice bearing Lewis lung carcinoma and these results were compared with effects of other inhibitors of platelet function (mopidamole, dipyridamole, pentoxifylline)."3.67Antimetastatic effect of flurbiprofen and other platelet aggregation inhibitors. ( Grimová, J; Kacerovská, H; Mamytbeková, A; Rezábek, K; Svobodová, J, 1986)
"Pentoxifylline (Trental), a phosphodiesterase inhibitor with platelet aggregation inhibitory effect, was shown to decrease spontaneous metastases in a Wilms' tumor model in Furth-Wistar rats and in neuroblastoma C1300 in A/J mice."3.66Studies on platelet aggregation inhibitors in vivo. VIII. Effect of pentoxifylline on spontaneous tumor metastasis. ( Ambrus, JL; Cohen, H; Gastpar, H; Gordon, S; Murphy, GP; Sciandra, J; Williams, P; Witul, M, 1979)
" In the present experiment pentoxifylline appears to be a highly effective platelet aggregation inhibitor: a dose-response curve is apparent in monkey between 6 and 24 mg/kg i."1.26Effect of phosphodiesterase inhibitors on platelet aggregation and tumor metastasis.
